TV thoughts: Threshold Premiere

Friday, September 16, 2005

Not a full recap this time folks, but I just caught the season premiere of Threshold on CBS. I hadn’t heard about the show until today, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I don’t watch CBS much, so I don’t follow their shows as much as I do other networks. the basic premise of this show is that aliens have invaded earth, and we are following one secret government organization as they follow it. Three of the members of the team are infected by the aliens in this first episode so things are already getting interesting.

The show has some familar faces - Carla Gugino and Charles S. Dutton. Both on television shows in the past. For you trekkies, we have Brent Spiner, the popular Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation. There is a good cast of characters around these major players as well.

The premiere was two hours long, and usually two hours for a television show kinda drags on for me heading into the second hour, but that wasn’t the case here. Things kept happening, and being discovered as the episode went on. Although the aliens premise seems to be in use for another show hitting the airwaves soon, this show definitely kept my interest, and the preview for next week’s episode looks interesting. I’ll be checking in for sure. Anyone else out there catch Threshold tonight?

I didn't care too much for it. It seems like an X-Files episode that they turned into a series. Mulder & Scully could have solved this in one hour.

It did have an X-files feel to it. ABC also has Invasion coming out next week, so we already have one alien program. Not sure how to well do. They look different, but still the basic premise is the same. I'll continue to watch, at least next week, and see what happens.

The one thing that struck me about the show was how choppy the editing was, especially during the first hour.
