TV Review: Real World Austin 10/18/05

Wednesday, October 19, 2005

My Rating:

For some reason, the Real World has lost its spark for me this season. Early on, I was excited to see this show every week, but now this show just doesn't keep me as interested. I think they had the potential here with the cast of room mates they selected, but somewhere along the line the show lost its focus. Now things that could have been used to make things earlier on are being picked up now that the Danny and Melinda saga has calmed down some. The two are finally happy, but there is still some time left on the show, so now the producers are looking for ways to keep things interesting.

This week's episode focused on two things that hadn't received much attention since the beginning of the season - the incident with Danny's eye and Rachel's boyfriend Erik. Yes, she has one, but we don't really hear much about him so it is quite easy to forget he exists here. However, during this episode, her man pays the house a visit, and after she gets permission from the rest of the house mates, he brings along their pet dog. Before he arrives, she is excited for him to arrive, and even mentions all the sex they are going to have once he does on the phone.

However, when he does arrive in Austin, her mood shifts. She's cold and distant, and she wants to have no part of any kind of sex with him. She wants to cuddle and sleep. Something Erik isn't happy about, but deals with thinking he'll get some by the time he leaves Austin after his three day trip. Rachel just feels different now that she sees him in person for the first time since coming to the house. The feelings she has for him have changed. She sees him as a friend, and not a boyfriend, and this bothers her. This also hurts him. Rachel wants to talk with him more than have sex because she knows having sex would have her lean towards being with him, but she doesn't want anything physical to influence her feelings.

While he is in Austin, he talks to one of the house mates about the situation with Rachel. His room mate of choice is the worst possible one. He chooses Lacey, and Rachel overhears their conversation. She goes to him after overhearing things, and things don't go well. That night Erik goes off with Wes and Nehemiah who have to decided to show Erik a good time in the city. They call up all the numbers they have collected and then they create a story of Erik being a producer from New York holding mini auditions for a reality television show. When the opportunity presents itself to Erik for him to go home with two girls, he backs away and returns to the house because he loves Rachel. She just isn't sure of what she wants when it comes to love.

The other half of the episode focused on Danny. Back when the season began, we all remember the incident outside the bar that led to Danny being injured and having to go under surgery. Since before his mother died, not much has been mentioned about pursuing legal action here by Danny. He had planned to call the day after Valentine's day to get things moving on that front, but his mother died that day. He then didn't pursue the matter. Well, finally in this episode we see him do so. He calls the detective of his case, and shows him the video. This is enough with Danny's statement to place a warrant for the man's arrest.

Another yawn for me with this episode. I know some might disagree, but I think this season of the Real World has just fallen apart for me. With so much of the focus early on going to two of the room mates, we have an imbalance here. Earlier on when we could have been seeing more of the personalities of the other house mates develop over time, we were being thrown bits and pieces. Lacey's behavior wasn't even brought out much until later episodes, and now it is become a focus because the room mates are making more note of it. Danny and Melinda are now perfectly happy, so there really isn't much to show there. Also it appears the festival is over. Even though there was no mention to that fact. The preview's for next week show the room mates having to put together their footage for a showing. We all remember they had to have this done in order to go on their vacation. Will they succeed? Tune in next week!

TV Review: Supernatural Episode 1.06

Tuesday, October 18, 2005

From WB: Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) come to the aid of Sam's old college buddy after he is accused of a murder he swears he didn't commit. The brothers discover a shapeshifter is adopting the likenesses of others and murdering people. The brothers' race to stop the shapeshifter takes a terrifying turn when he shifts into the likeness of Dean.

My Rating:

This week Supernatural comes to us with an episode titled "Skin" in which we have a shapeshifter in our mists. The show starts by jumping ahead in time where we see the police searching an house. They find a female victim tied up in a dark room. She directs the cops somehow to where the person that tied her up is, and as they go to look, we see his face, and its Dean.

This is when we jump back in time a week to see the brothers sitting in a car talking. Well, Dean is talking to silent Sam. We learn that Sam is going through his emails using his palm pilot, and one of the messages is from a friend from back at school. A friend of his has gotten into a bit of legal trouble, and the sister emails Sam about it. Turns out the young man is accused of murder, but at the time of the murder he was with his sister drinking, so there was no way he could of committed the crime. The problem here there is video footage if the young man entering the location of the murder just before it happened. Sam gets Dean to drive to St. Louis, even though Dean is pretty sure this isn't their type of case.

They arrive in St. Louis not long after, and they go immediately to where the sister is staying. Becky tells them all she knows, and even takes them to the crime scene. Dean pretends to be a cop, so Becky trusts them to go into the crime scene. She also shows them the surveillance tape, and Sam notices something strange when he sees his friend on the video - something odd with his eyes.

While they are searching, another similar crime is taking place. A man leaves home for work, but decides to return when an appointment cancels on him. He comes home to find his wife tied up in the same manner as the girl in the start of tonight's episode. She also seems fearful of him. The man goes to look through the apartment, and he finds himself. The other version of him actually whacks him over the head, and when we next see him he is being taking away in handcuffs by the police.

The two brothers visit this crime scene as well, and after a few questions, Dean finally concedes that they really should be there because we have a shape shifter on our hands. The two brother go underground to find the shape shifter after finding the skin the shape shifter sheds. They find the creature, and he attacks Dean. This leaves Sam to chase after him while Dean slowly catches up.
The two brothers separate to go after the shape shifter with no luck. Or so we think. The shape shifter has taken the form of Dean. Sam isn't fooled, and figures out the ploy quickly, but the shape shifter still takes him, and when Sam wakes up he is tied up like the others. Appears the shape shifter takes on not only the identity of the person it shifts into, but it takes on its memories too. In a scene between the shape shifter and Sam, we learn of some of Dean's feelings about his brother.

As Dean, the shape shifter then takes on its next victim, Becky. After talking doesn't work, he ties her up like he did Sam. This is where we pick up the scene from the beginning. While this is happening, Dean wakes up in the same location Sam is, and gets himself free. The brothers then go to Becky's, but it is too late because the shape shifter has already been there. The two brothers try to retrieve their car, but the cops show up. Dean runs, and leaves Sam to handle the cops.

The next morning Dean decides to go back after the shape shifter in the sewers, but he finds Becky tied up there. The shape shifter has now taken over likeness just as Sam arrives to meet her. The shape shifter takes Sam once again - returning to the shape of his brother Dean. The shifters plan is to kill Sam and frame Dean for his murder. However, Sam breaks free, and a fight ensues. During the fight, Dean arrives and shoots the shifter in the chest with a silver bullet, thus killing it. Once again the brothers are successful.

This was another good episode for Supernatural. Not only was the legend they dealt with interesting, but they also had some other areas covered by this episode. One being the relationship between the brothers. We are able to see some hidden feelings that Dean has for his brother when the shifter talks to Sam. We also see Dean essentially die in this episode. Since the shifter was in his form when killed, that is who the police think it was that died.

Dean is also accused of the murder of the girl Sam's friend killed, so this young man is also set free. With Dean now being legally dead, this might come back to bite us in a later episode. We also see how Sam is dealing with his new life. He had given up school and friends when he ran off to join Dean, and now we are seeing the results of this action. This show really does keep us going each week, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

TV Review: Surface Episode 1.05

Monday, October 17, 2005

From NBC: Good friends and keepers of "Nimrod," Miles (Carter Jenkins) and Phil (Eddie Hassell), are confronted and questioned by Animal Control officers when a neighbor's dog is reported missing. Meanwhile, Laura (Lake Bell) and Richard (Jay R. Ferguson) continue to follow the unidentified species via a GPS tracking device from a local pier when suddenly all the power in the city goes out and digital data is destroyed. Elsewhere, Circo (Rade Sherbedgia) and Lee (Ian Anthony Dale), who have been secretly following Laura, invite her to join their investigation. Leighton Meester also stars.

My Rating:

On last week's Surface, Laura chased down one of the creatures and placed a tracking device on it, Nimrod attacked and ate a young girl's dog, and Rich looked like he was ready to give up on all this creature stuff, and return home to his wife and family. That is until he sees a picture in a newspaper that looks just like what he has been drawing. This week, Laura keeps tracking the creature she tagged, Animal Control gets involved when the smal dog is reported missing by its owners, and Rich joins Laura in California.

Rich decides to join Laura in California, leaving his family behind in Louisiana. He immediately asks her if she has experienced anything similar to what he has in the last few weeks. She hasn't, and as they are talking her computer starts to ping with a warning. The creature she has tagged seems to be moving closer towards land. She watches the creatures movements, and tracks it to a possible location where it will go - a location just a few hours away by car.

However, she isn't the only one tracking the creature using her GPS device. Someone has picked up on her signal. Circo and his crew track the signal to her, but Circo makes a stand here. If anything happens to Laura, he will quit the project following the creatures.

Rich and her go to investigate after dropping her son off with his father - Rich driving like a mad man in order for them to make it on time. Laura keeps an eye on the creature using her laptop, and they make it to the location just as the creature comes out of the water. They have their camera ready to catch it on film, along with many other sightseers in the area. The US Coast Guard even comes into play when they try to lure the creature back out to sea, but instead the creatures goes under. Laura and Rich know the creature is still in the area because they can hear it. Out of nowhere, the creature emits a pulse that ends up wiping out all the footage shot of it by Laura's camera and others. She once again doesn't have any visual evidence of the creature.

As the day progresses, the tracking device leads the government to the creature and Laura, and they find her at the creature sighting. Circo comes to her, and now he has a change of tune. He wants Laura to work with him now. She isn't too keen on this, especially since she has now been accused of plagirism because of her work on the case of the unexplainable new creature. We have no idea what her decision is to Circo's and the government's offer because the show ends soon after.

Now what about the third part of this triangle between Laura, Rich and Miles? Miles is still at home, and he is trying to hide the infant creature from the Animal Control following the disappearance of a family dog. His parent's are adamant that he has no pet, but we all know he has been lying to his parents about Nim since that first night. The animal control starts to look for the creature, swimming around Phil's outdoor pool with a wand, but the pool ends up breaking, and water is let loose all over, covering Miles' sister in what up to her ankles.

In order to hide Nim from animal creature, Phil decides to put Nim in Miles' mother's car. A smart idea at the time, but the smartness of it soon fades as his mother decides to go to the store to take back the broken aquarium. Yes, Nim is off on a field trip. He gets out of the car, and starts going through the aisles of the store and causing trouble. Not much trouble, but enough to get him noticed and animal control called once again. Nim ends up escaping the store after even getting shot by a nail gun. However, by the end of the episode, Mim has dound his way back home to Miles. He even knocks on his bedroom window, so that Miles can let the creature in. Once inside, he hops onto bed and under the covers to sleep. I think almost anyone can agree that this scene was cute.

Another good episode for this show. Just earlier today, NBC announced that it was giving the show a full season order. Something I am happy to see. This episode is probably one of the slowest of this series to date, but it is an important episode. It is laying the groundwork for what is to come. We have two of our three main characters now together. If Laura joins Circo, this also would make things interesting.

We can see that in the near future Miles will have to join the other two as we saw he will do sometime in the next few episodes from previous previews. Not only do we have the creature, but we see the characters develop as well. Rich has left his wife in a sense, and she thinks he is cheating on her with Laura when he hears them in the background. Circo is starting to see Laura as a younger colleague and I get the feeling that this relationship will go stronger in time. Almost like a mentor/mentee relationship.

I loved how they introduced the creature to the world in this episode. It wasn't violent. It just was. The scene was one full of wonder and not of fright. This is something similar to what audiences experienced with Close Encounters of the Third Kind. At least that is what immediately comes to my mind. The comparisions have been made by critics between this show and Spielberg, and I can see the reason why in this episode. there is one thing that confused me though. Laura first calls the creature him and then her. It kind of makes things interesting that she doesn't even know what it is, but it is still a bit confusing as well. I'm really glad to know this show is sticking around for the rest of the season. I wonder what else they have in store for us!

TV Review: Grey's Anatomy Episode 2.04

Sunday, October 16, 2005

From ABC: As Cristina tries to recover, she proves to be a very difficult patient, and a visit from her mother doesn't improve her demeanor any. And Meredith's mother, Dr. Ellis Grey, has the hospital staff running in circles. Jeremiah, a cystic fibrosis patient, could benefit from Dr. Addison Shepherd's medical knowledge, but her involvement in his surgery could delay her highly anticipated departure from Seattle Grace Hospital, leaving Meredith and Derek's relationship hanging in the balance.

My Rating:

If all else fails, deny deny deny. At least that's Meredith's advice when it comes to life. Actually denial is a part of all that we do. One intern at Seattle Grace is denying she lost a baby and a boyfriend, and everything is just fine. Another intern is denying she might just have a little bit of a thing for one of her fellow interns, and yet another is denying that she is jealous of the other woman in her boyfriend's life - the other woman being his wife! Oh my! Another packed episode of Grey's Anatomy comes at us, and yes it is titled "Deny, Deny, Deny."

This week's episode opens at Joe's bar once again, but no one collapses and falls to the ground this time around. Izzie, George and Meredith are having a drink, and talking about Cristina, and her apparent lack of emotion since her surgery. We see Bailey at the bar, and she is soon joined by Dr. McDreamy, and he is going on and on about his woman problems. Does Bailey care? Hah ... that would be a hell no. However, by the end of the episode, Bailey does give the doctor some love advice!

With Cristina still out of commission due to her surgery, the interns are busy with three full cases and a Dr. Ellis Grey who is driving everyone batty, especially George because he is still on babysitting detail. He doesn't like this at all because it inhibits him from working on another case, but Webber is adamant that George stays on and with Ellis as much as he can. Even by watching her like a hawk, the doctor still manages to escape from her room a couple of times, and even joins in on a diagnosis on one of the cases.

With Ellis still being a factor, we had to wonder why she was still in the hospital. Well, we discovered the answer to that question during this episode, and I so saw this coming last week when she came in. Just the way Ellis talked about Webber when she thought Burke was Webber. Anyone else recall her calling him a beautiful man? How about that little scene with Webber while she was sleeping? Well, Webber goes to find her, and when he does she lays a huge kiss on him. Now this does make things more interesting! Did these two have an affair at some point? I'm thinking the answer to that question is possibly a yes!

This week we had three cases. One of a young woman coming in and complaining of unstable heart rhythms, a young man with cystic fibrosis complaining of pain, and a third with a man that shot himself in the head or so he says. Alex gets the man with Derek, Izzie and a not able to stay down Cristina works with Burke on the young woman, and Meredith works with Bailey and Addison on the young man.

Even though Cristina is order to bed to recover from her surgery, she won't stay in bed. She keeps getting up and out, working even though she shouldn't be. Her mother comes up from Los Angeles, and this makes things even worse for her. She seems to latch onto the one case Burke is working on with Izzie, and she soon discovers that the young woman is faking it. She goes to Burke, but he says they still need to go through with what they need to. As for their relationship personally, Burke comes to Cristina a few times during the episode, and by the end, she turns to him after she finally breaks down. The loss of the baby finally hits her, and she just can't stop crying. She allows him to console her during this time.

As for the case of the young man, this patient's story was particularly heartbreaking. Bailey had been his doctor for years, and she had developed a bond with the young man. She calls in Addison to work on the case because she knows the woman has knowledge that might help save the young man. Turns into one of those damned if you, damned if you don't situations. There is a chance he'll die with or without surgery.

Asking Addison to work on the case throws a small monkey wrench into Derek's plans. He is ready for his soon to be ex-wife to leave the hospital so he can repair things with Meredith. Addison has even presented Shepard with divorce papers. Meredith still doesn't want complications because she has enough of those on our own without his help.

I think the best scenes of this show came from this story line. Meredith and Derek in the hallway for one, and then Derek and Bailey in the elevator. I am loving how Bailey is being given more air time this season. Her character just continuously seems to be growing with each episode that passes. At the end when this patient died, and she wanted to keep going my heart just broke because you could see her own heart breaking. Yes, the Nazi has a heart everyone. She couldn't always be a cold witch now could she?

As for Alex and the odd case of the week. A man has somehow shot himself in the head, but there is no blood? The bullet has somehow traveled through his head to lodge at the back of his brain. We soon find out, he was actually shot by his wife because he cheated on her! We also learn that Alex has failed his exams, and if he fails again, he will no longer be an intern. And what about Izzie and Alex? Can we say about time?! I know I am!

Once again Grey's Anatomy delivers another wonderful episode full of the right mix of medical drama and oddity with good character interactions and well written plots and story lines. The characters grow with each week that passes, and we see those same bonds that have been forming over the span of the last thirteen episodes continue to grow. Life and love in Seattle Grace Hospital is never boring! I can't wait for next week.

Don't forget about my Grey's Anatomy forum over at MediaVillage.com. Hop on over to the forums drama section to talk about this week's episode! And for those that know what this is ... here is another gazoo.

Saturday Night Movie: The Stepford Wives

Saturday, October 15, 2005

From IMDB: What does it take to become a Stepford wife, a woman perfect beyond belief? Ask the Stepford husbands, who've created this high-tech terrifying little town, in a very modern comedy-thriller.

My Rating:

Okay so not your regular Saturday Night Premiere this week, but I did watch a movie tonight so I'm bringing you my thoughts on The Stepford Wives which I caught on Showtime earlier. Neither of the movies premiering tonight on HBO & Starz caught my eye.

The Step ford Wives stars Nicole Kidman as Johanna, a television executive that is always on the go, until her network fires her. In solidarity, her husband quits working for the same network, and the two move to Step ford, Connecticut - the two where everything is just perfect. Perhaps too perfect? I don't remember the original film because that was made years ago, but I did enjoy this film. It's a bit cheesy, and it doesn't take much of a brain to follow, but there are some things that I did enjoy from this film.

One of them being Johanna, Bobby, and Roger - pre change. These three together were hilarious together. I've always been a Bette Midler fan, and she does well here. I would have loved to see more of her. Christopher Walken also does well as the town leader turned robot here. He's got the creepy quality to him that fit perfectly to this role. Towards the end, when we see Walter and Johanna go down below for her to change, I was a bit upset though. I was like .... that's it? I'm glad they had that little twist at the end. I really hoped Walter didn't go through with it. Johanna's tear as they went down was a nice touch as well.

Now this film may not ever win any awards. In fact, I know it won't because it really isn't the best of movies. What really stood out to me was the relationship between the three non robots until the two are changed. This movie also shown the entrance into movies by country singing superstar Faith Hill. She really could have chosen a better role here. Her husband was seen in Friday Night Lights as an alcoholic father, and his performance was one of the highlights of an already awesome film. Hopefully, we will see her elsewhere.

also I have to wonder about Nicole Kidman. This is not the kind of film I'm used to seeing her in. I know this was followed up by Bewitched as well. I'm not used to seeing her in comedies. I'm used to seeing her in more serious roles like in The Others. Although, I do happen to think her performance in Moulin Rouge to be one of her best. So if you're looking for a few laughs and some mindless entertainment for ninety minutes, this film fits the bill. Don't expect much more than that though.

Check this movie out on Amazon.

Book Review: Mr. Right Now by Monica Jackson

Friday, October 14, 2005

Title: Mr. Right Now
Author: Monica Jackson
Publisher: Dafina Books
Release Date: December 5th, 2005

My Rating:

The next release from national bestselling author Monica Jackson, Mr. Right Now, isn't set for release until December but you can read about it here now. This book kept me turning the page from page one and onward. I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

Mr. Right Now follows a group of three friends as they look for their Mr. Right. Our main heroine, Luby Jones, has her world turned upside down when she meets the new guy, Jake Kosevo, that just moved into her building. She wants him and she wants him bad. Then again so does everyone else in the building. Just why is that hmm?

Problem here is he's white and she's not. She doesn't date white guys, so she tries to set him up with her friend. That doesn't work out all that well. Something keeps pulling Luby closer and closer to this man. Something undeniable. She ends up in his bed, and this is where things get interesting.

From that point on we're taking on a paranormal ride along side Luby. A ride where life and death are on the line. Luby has no idea when she met Jake in the elevator that day she would be set on this journey not only looking for the man to be hers for the rest of her life, but also a journey of self discovery where her family past plays a part.

Not only do we have Luby's life and loves to deal with, but that of her two closest friends. One being unhappily married, and another going from bad relationship to bad relationship. The resolution to these problems had me laughing as well.

This book is full of love and humor with some hot sex thrown in. I found myself unable to put this book down. The paranormal aspect came in a bit later, but there were twists in the turns in this part of the story that kept me guessing. I wanted to know what happened. By the end, we had the desired result of a happily ever after, but the road down the path to get there was definitely a rocky one.

I definitely recommend picking up this book when it hits store shelves, or you can always pre-order now through Amazon.

TV Review: ER Episode 12.04

Thursday, October 13, 2005

From NBC: A patient who has been in a coma for nine years suddenly awakens in the ER and Kovac (Goran Visnjic) struggles with whether he should reveal her the truth about her past. Abby (Maura Tierney) comforts Dr. Dubenko (Leland Orser) after he finds out some troubling news. New Nurse Manager Eve (Kristen Johnston "3rd Rock from the Sun") makes waves in the ER as she implements her strict methods.

My Rating:

An ER episode titled "Blame it on the Rain" came at us tonight full of twists and humor. There seemed to be one twist after another on this rainy day in the ER. The ER is full of cases due to the rain. Several car accidents, a man complaining of chest pain and a comatose woman make up the main roster of patients on tonight's episode. There is also some surprising developments that in my mind made this episode one of the best of this season so far. However, I've seen this show do far better.

In the opening minutes of tonight's episode, we saw Eve and Morris go head to head, Abby get a bit steamed when a driver almost hits her, and Kerry take charge of the ER. After some moments seeing the ER in work with Eve once again taking charge of the nurses as she did last week, we see our first case rolled into the ER - a woman that has been comatose for six years from a nursing home. The paramedics drop her off leaving her in Luka's care. After Eve comes in between Luka and Sam working together on the case, Luka goes to Kerry, but she states it is Eve's call when it comes to the nursing staff.

We then see Ray off on an toxicology elective. Not sure what the purpose of him doing this now was. He is sent off to work with the poison control center manning the phones. He tries to inject a bit of humor into the position, but that goes over as big as a scorpion bite in the middle of the desert. We don't see much of him this episode.

Our next case into the ER is one of the motor vehicle accidents. A young mother drives into a cinder block wall with her three month old baby in the car with her. Seems the car seat wasn't attached to the car properly and the baby's car seat seemed to have been ejected or jarred during the accident. The woman's original story upon entering the ER is that someone tried to car jack her. She suffers very little injury - broken breast bone and facial lacerations.

While Neela is treating her, the woman makes references that make it seem like it was not a simple car accident, but instead intentional. Neela tries to get psych to look at her and admit her for dealing with postpartum depression, but after a brief visit psych sees nothing wrong with the woman and she is allowed to go home. At the end of the episode, we see Neela watching as she is driven away by her husband. I think there is a good chance of seeing this family in the ER again.

Abby's case tonight was a man coming in complaining of chest pain. He is accompanied by someone that looks to be his wife, but we soon learn she is a therapist - and we use that term loosely here if you know what I mean. She is his satisfaction facilitator. Call girl sounds politically incorrect these days doesn't it? Abby treats the man, but the woman seems to have more of a purpose in this episode as we later learn.

During the episode, Abby goes to Dr. Dubenko to ask about why she saw him last week up being seen by a doctor. He confides in her that he has developed prostrate cancer. He further confides to her over coffee about his treatment options, and in a totally humorous exchange about a highly serious matter he asks her to have sex with him. She doesn't say yes, but you can tell she felt bad for him. By the end of the episode, she has an idea to ask the satisfaction facilitator for assistance, but we don't know the result of this because the episode ends soon after.

One final case comes in near the end of the episode. Another MVA where a man has a broken pelvis. His son gets a bit heated and goes after the man responsible. During this case, Sam and Luka work together flawlessly - unlike their interaction last week. Sam goes to Eve and gives her a piece of her mind about her schedule, but Eve had also seen the interaction between the former couple and reinstated Sam's former schedule.

Another humorous side plot on tonight's episode is Kerry sending Jerry out into the storm to pick up a present for her son's birthday. She sends off after a King Funshine Care Bear early on in the episode. We don't see him until the end of the episode, and he has been hit by lightning. Poor Jerry.

Now what about the comatose woman brought in at the beginning of the episode? Near the end the woman wakes up with no memory of the events that have her in the hospital other than her having been in some type of accident. Luka has no idea to deal with this, and we really don't see the result of this. For something that is mentioned as a major plot point for this show, this story line really did nothing, and in fact with an already crowded ER it could have been left out without hurting the episode.

This happened last week as well with the fight Luka got into with the patient's husband. It had been hyped as Luka having some type of break down, but this wasn't the case. False advertising? Possibly. I know I don't like being told something is going to play a major part of the episode's story line and then it clearly isn't. Also the show even made an error in the episode description. They say nine, and it was mentioned as six years throughout the episode.

This show does have a lot of good in it. Some highlights for me were the scenes between Abby and Dubenko and Luka's obvious frustration with the new nurse manager. I'm still not all too thrilled with her character, but I liked Eve more this week. She can stop being a total bitch for .3 seconds because she did switch Sam back to her schedule. I think this episode was good, but I'm starting to get the feeling that the show is searching for its momentum.

The focus in recent weeks has fallen to Abby, and she is a wonderful character played by a good actress, but there is more to this show than her character. Some characters are getting the short end of the stick time wise. Morris hasn't been seen much at all this season. He mostly comes in at moments where comic relief is needed. Same with Pratt and Ray this episode. Susan just disappeared. Fans knew her actress was once again leaving the show, but there was no real explanation for her leaving the ER. She just stopped appearing. So many problems. This show is still one of the good ones on television, but after twelve years on there is only so much you can do that hasn't been done already.

On next week's episode, we have the introduction of another new addition, John Leguizamo's Dr. Clemente. Just from the teaser at the end of tonight's episode, he looks to also come in and shake things up. Will he shake them up enough to bring this show back to its former stature?

TV Review: Lost Episode 2.04

Wednesday, October 12, 2005

From ABC - Disturbing memories from Hurley's past cause him to struggle with a task he's assigned inside the hatch. Meanwhile Sawyer, Michael and Jin discover the identities of their captors, and Claire uncovers a shocking piece of information about the fate of the raft.

My Rating:

Lost is one of those types of shows where if you look away for a moment you can miss some thing that might bear some major importance later on in the show. It might not come up for weeks, but it can and will come up. That's what makes this show so good. It has good storytelling. It might be slow, but that doesn't make Lost any less interesting. This show is building some thing, putting together a puzzle - piece by piece with each episode.

On this week's episode titled "Everybody hates Hugo" those that know about the hatch are giving certain tasks or jobs they must perform. Some are in charge of going through shifts pressing the button every 108 minutes. Sayid is sent to explore an unexplainable sound and magnetic force behind one of the hatch's walls, and Hurley is assigned to inventory the food. Since the name kind of the episode kind of gives it away - yes this is a Hurley centric episode, and as soon as he is given the job of inventorying the food probably start to pop up for him.

The first being with Charlie. When his friend asks Hurley about the hatch, he keeps quiet about it. This frustrates Charlie and he goes to find Locke - stalking him through the forest until Locke calls him out. Locke holds nothing back from the other man. He tells him all about the hatch, the button and the food that his friend Hurley is in charge of. Charlie goes back to Hurley and confronts him about the food. His one request is for a jar of peanut butter. It's for Claire.

I'm sure most of us remember the imaginary peanut butter scene from last season. Charlie and Claire shippers everywhere held onto this one scene, and still do as the moment for them and these two on the show. However, Hurley denies his friend's request, and this causes a bit of a verbal confrontation. Hurley holds his ground, and even goes to Locke about him telling Charlie. It doesn't really matter all that much that he already told someone outside the inner circle about the food. He enlisted Rose to help him do the inventory.

Because of his own past and a dream he had with an English speaking Jin, he knows that the food will change everyone. He somehow gets an idea in his mind to blow up the bunker of food, but Rose stops him in time. He then goes to Jack and tells him that there is only enough food to last one man three months on the island, so it is best to just distribute now or start to in any case. With Jack's agreement, Hurley walks through the camp and hands out food to the survivors. Yes, Charlie gets his peanut butter for Claire too! All are happy.

Now what about Jin, Sawyer and Michael? Last we saw them they were in captivity of the other survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Well, this week they are let loose from the pit they had been put and taken to where the other survivors have been holding up. One of them, a woman played by actress Cynthia Watros, tells them that twenty-three people survived from the back of the plane. However, when they arrive at what appears to possibly be another bunker on the island, we only see a handful of survivors remaining of the twenty-three.

By the end of the episode, one of them men there comes up to the three captives - well they can't leave, so technically they are still being held - and asks for Rose and if she is alive. They tell him yes, and this brings the man great joy. Is the husband she was so firm on being still alive? We haven't seen Rose since early on last season. Yet here she is, and the writers found a way to make her a part of this whole plot. Nice little twist. Same with the peanut butter reference.

Since this is a Hurley centric episode, we were taking back in flash back form to when Hurley won the lottery. We see him go in the next day and quit, His best friend also quits, and they spend that day having fun before the next day when the friend reminds him they both need to find a job. However, his friend doesn't know that Hurley won the lottery. When they go to the liquor store where Hurley bought the ticket, his friend quickly figures it out, and you can just see his face change with the realization that his friend isn't like him anymore. Now he has money. He doesn't need to find a job the next day like he does.

A small side plot on tonight's episode involved Claire. Not only did she get her peanut butter, but she also finds something while she is out walking along the beach. She sees the bottle full of messages float back onto the shore. She recognizes the bottle, and goes to Shannon with it. The two of them go to Sun with the bottle because that would mean something happened to the raft and her husband on it. They leave it to her to decide what to do with the bottle, and in the end she is burying it. Not sure why they all didn't go to Jack and the others, but I'm sure we'll know why soon.

Now there is so much I loved about this episode I don't even know where to begin. Well, the best place is to always start at the beginning. Hurley's dream sequence. We had to know it was a dream because who can open a box and find a completely cooked dinner on a plate and a banana split already made? I know how much they hyped up Jin speaking on this episode, but that fell just a bit short. So much hype for something so easily explainable. It got us interested though, and that is what matters.

I also loved the end of the episode where Hurley is handing out the food. Maybe I'm just a sap, but that also made me teary eyed. Not only the look on everyone's faces, but the look on Hurley's face. Everyone didn't hate him then. They all loved him. In the one moment, his stroke of bad luck was gone. Even if it came back, in that one moment he knew people loved him. Yes, I'm a sap, but you could tell how happy he was by the look on his face.

I am also loving the new cast additions. Ana Lucia is feisty and wonderful. Michelle Rodriguez was perfect for this role. I'm curious to see what they do with Watros as well here. I'm also enjoying the dynamic between Sawyer and Ana Lucia. Last season, we had the Sawyer/Kate/Jack triangle, but now with this new girl will they push Jack and Kate together to hook up this explosive couple. The previews for next week seem to hint at some flirtation between the two. As for Kate and Jack, the looks when she came out of the shower and their playfulness while eating at the end of the episode could definitely lead to more - especially with Sawyer out of the picture.

Now with any episode of Lost, you have questions. These are some of mine:

  • What about Shannon? The last few week's she been a bit crazed, and tonight on this episode she looked perfectly fine and content. I'm trying to pinpoint if something happened that would have caused this mood shift, but I'm drawing a blank. Anyone have any ideas?

  • The bunker where the other survivors are camping out. At least it looks like another bunker. Are there more on the island? Last week, I mentioned this because they said in the video the hatch was site three. Well there seems to be another one, and that means there might be even another bunker. Is this last bunker we haven't seen yet, the campgrounds for the others that we still haven't seen?

  • What is in the hatch that has a magnetic pull? Why would they want to dig to look at it? Something with that strong of a pull can't be good.

  • I can't wait for next week, but a look ahead at the schedule shows that there is no episode for October 26th scheduled. Our first break in this show. Please tell me we will not begin the three to four weeks off for this show we experienced last season!

TV Review: Real World Austin 10/12/05

    Tuesday, October 11, 2005

    My rating:

Yawn! That's what this episode of the Real World: Austin made me do. This has turned into one of the most boring seasons to me. I think the constant focus on the romance between Danny and Melinda has really hurt this show. There are seven people in the house, but many of the episodes have focused on two - Danny and Melinda. Now that the season is almost over, it is kind of hard to put the focus on others of the house.

On tonight's episode of the Real World, we kept up with South by Southwest festival. The house mates are still hard at work filming their assigned documentary. The episode opens with them working on filming one of the bands, Halifax. Lacey has no love at all for the band, but it seems that Wes is finally getting his assignment here a little. A bit of a turnaround from last week's episode. We also see Rachel hanging out with the band a bit. She is having fun and flirting a little with one of the guys in the band.

The members of Halifax even show up at the house. Mike, the lead singer of the group, even shows her some interest. In order to impress the guy, Rachel jumps into the basketball machine, breaking it. Nehemiah chastises her for the act, and we see Rachel once again let him get under her skin. She is in tears in the bathroom, but Melinda, Johanna and Mike try to cheer her up.

The next morning, Rachel and the rest of the blue team - consisting of Danny and Wes - have an alarm clock malfunction and are late to meet up with Hello Good-bye at campgrounds outside the city. They end up not finding them and returning home. The band calls the house, and they set up a meeting for that night and camping the next day.

That night we jump to the red team - consisting of Johanna, Nehemiah and Lacey. We see Johanna and Nehemiah hard at work filming, but what is Lacey doing? Nothing. A good part of this episode actually focuses on Lacey and her manipulative ways. Turns out she is quite the trash talker. Behind your back, she will say one thing, but to you she will say another. Rachel even catches Lacey trash talking her on film. This was probably the highlight of the thirty minute show, but it was nothing all that shocking. We had been tuned in to Lacey's behavior in previous episodes.

The talking behind people's backs isn't the only thing bothering the house mates about Lacey though. What really gets them is how she isn't doing all that much of a job with the festival. Melinda even mentions how she had wanted the position Lacey had been assigned, and how she would have done things differently. Seems Lacey isn't one to do a whole lot of work here. This would bother me too if I was in the house mates position.

The next morning arrives and Rachel drives off once again to the camp grounds. This time with Danny and Melinda in tow. They find the band, and they shoot some good footage of the band singing out in the middle of nowhere. They hang out by the side of a watering hole on the grounds. Danny wants to jump off a cliff into the water with Melinda. At first she wants no part of it due to her fear of heights, but by the end of the episode we see her jump off. Danny placed special importance in this action. It showed that she trusted him.

As I said when this review began, this episode was really boring. There was not much that stood out during the episode. Showing Lacey's behavior is something good, but it seems showing this now is an after thought. This has been shown weeks ago, and instead of showing this behavior throughout the episodes, they mention it then and now. They focused their attentions elsewhere. I had such hopes for this season when it began, but I see it slowly falling apart with each week that passes.

What did you think of this episode of the Real World? Did it cause you to yawn like it did me? Or did you find yourself on the edge of your seat? Let me know what you think.

    TV Review: Supernatural 1.05

From WB: In suburban Ohio, a group of partying high school teens jokingly dare their friend Charlie (guest star Marnette Patterson) to look into the mirror and repeat 'Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary," not knowing this will unleash a series of mysterious murders. Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) realize that Bloody Mary has the power to travel through all reflective surfaces when she is hunting a victim. Worried that teens are accidentally summoning Bloody Mary, Sam and Dean race to destroy the violent spirit before she can kill again.

    My Rating:

Wow this show came back hard for me this week. Last week, I wasn't all that enthused by the episode, but it was enjoyable. Just not the best in my opinion. However, this week's episode is probably my favorite of the season so far. This week, Sam and Dean venture to Toledo, Ohio after another unexplained death. In the opening moments of the episode, we see a small group of teen girls at a slumber party playing truth or dare. One of the girls is dared to say the name of Bloody Mary three times in the dark bathroom while she stares in the mirror. When nothing happens, the girls are relieved, but their relief is short lived because the older sister returns home to find their father dead in the bathroom with his eyes having been liquefied.

The Winchester brothers go to investigate, once again using their lying ways and a little bit of bribery allow them entrance into the morgue to see the body. They then go to the funeral in order to see the family and ask questions. The youngest daughter blurts out about Bloody Mary, and Sam and Dean are definitely interested. They meet a friend of the daughter's and use her in order to look into the case further. When the girl's friend is also mysteriously murdered after saying Mary's name into her bathroom mirror, she turns to the two brothers convinced about Bloody Mary.

Charlie, the young girl, goes to tell her friend about Bloody Mary, but she thinks her friend has lost it. She says the dreaded name three times, and Charlie knows Bloody Mary will come for her. At first it seems that Bloody Mary has no rhyme or reason for choosing her victims. However, the brothers soon figure out that she is going after those that have a secret that involved a death. Anyone with such a secret is fair game for the spirit. Charlie knows she has a secret such as this in her own past. Sam and Dean then make a plan in order to kill the spirit, but in order to do that they need to know who she is and what mirror is her mirror.

With the invention of the Internet and a little searching, Sam and Dean discover Mary's identity and where the mirror is. Now all they have to end up doing is to lure her out and into her mirror. Sam decides it will be him. Throughout the episode, and in past episodes, Sam has been plagued with nightmares of his girlfriend Jessica's unexplained death. The nightmares worsen in this episode, and Sam tells his brother he wasn't exactly forthcoming with all the facts surrounding her death. He has a secret of his own, so he would be the ideal one to lure her out.

The two brothers go to location where the mirror is located and Sam says the needed words, but just as he does so the two brothers get some company and this takes Dean away to handle it. This leaves Sam alone with the spirit, and the spirit fills us in on just what Sam's secret is. He had dreamt of Jessica's death before it actually happened, and he hadn't warned her. Even more than that he left her alone to run off with Dean. This is the why he has been feeling really guilty since her death. However, he decides to not tell Sam the secret. Once Dean comes back, they shatter a few mirrors, but this doesn't kill the spirit. Dean focuses one of the mirrors on the spirit herself, and she sees her own reflection and dies in the same manner as all those she has killed. Bloody Mary is dead, and is well. As the two leave town, Sam is watching out the car window and he sees Jessica in spirit form. Another chilling end for this episode.

I am really loving this show. It is like watching Halloween every week. Each and every week, we have a different urban legend dissected and destroyed by the Winchester brothers. Now who hasn't at least heard of Bloody Mary? She is probably as popular as The Lady in White legend, which was featured on this show's premiere episode. Bloody Mary is one of those legends that scares everyone - kind of like Candyman. Another legend with a similar result. If you want read more about this legend you can go to this website.

The scare factor isn't the only thing I love about this show though. The characters have pulled me in. Each week, we see the two brothers get closer to each other. They are mending fences, and that is obvious as time paces. I also like how they slowly unravel the legends over the hour long episodes. My only complaint with this show is that they do seem to wrap up the legends really quickly in the end. It is too tidy. Also another thought, the end scene with Bloody Mary was very Ring like. Her coming out of the mirror immediately made me think of the young girl coming out of the television. Fans of the show will be happy to know that the WB network has ordered a full season of this show. I can't wait for next week.

    TV Review: Surface Episode 1.04

    Monday, October 10, 2005

From NBC: When Daughtery (Lake Bell) and Jackson (Austin Nichols) encounter one of the unidentified species at sea, Daughtery fires a GPS tracking device into it in an effort to keep track of it. Meanwhile, Rich (Jay R. Ferguson) is beginning to think he is getting over his brothers death but when he sees photos of sinkholes similar to those in his visions he has a relapse. Elsewhere, Circo (Rade Sherbedgia) testifies before the Pentagon that this unidentified species is extremely dangerous and Lee (Ian Anthony Dale) tries to talk him out of it. Leighton Meester and Carter Jenkins also star.

    My Rating:

This episode of Surface continues following the three who have seen this creature up close and personal. Each has their own path to take with this journey, but we do know sooner or later the three will meet up together. This week's episode starts in the Caribbean where a young girl tells her mother that there are monsters in the water. The woman ignores her daughter until she comes up to her while holding a largish squid. This certainly grabs the woman's attention, and she asks her daughter where she found the squid. When the little girl points away from her, the mother and everyone else sees tons of squid washed up on the beach shore. Most are even still living, but not for long.

Once calamari becomes the meal of the day at the restaurant Laura is now working at, she becomes curious. Turns out two tons of squid were brought in that day. This makes her curious and she wonders if a creature is the cause of the restaurant's recent squid windfall. She goes to a friend of hers with a boat, and talks him into taking her out to look for whales. She can't certainly tell him the real reason for her trip now can she?

The two end up out on the ocean waters after some pressuring on her part, and they soon make a discovery of dead whales. Some still alive. When Laura wants to go investigate, they find the creature is still in the waters around them. She sends her friend chasing after it, but the creature makes a turn and goes at the boat, releasing a pulse that damages all the boats electronic systems and sending Laura to unconsciousness. This means the two are stuck with the creature until the next morning when they can try to repair the boat so it will start.

During that night, we learn that the man she turned to is a past fling, and it appears he still has feelings for her, but she has no interest in the man whatsoever. The next day, the man goes into the water to discover he can't fix the boat himself because his hands are too big to fit where he needs to get into. This sends Laura down into the water. While down there, she is visited once again by the creature. - a quite calm creature I might add. She comes up for air, and asks Jackson for the GPS device she had attached to a spear gun, and she goes back under with just enough time to shoot the device onto the animal. She can now track the species as this one creature swims through the ocean depths. This pleases her!

Back on land, Rich and Miles are both dealing with things as best they can. Rich has come to believe that his brother is still alive and trying to communicate to him through water. His wife thinks he has lost it, and sends him to a doctor. The doctor prescribes medication for him. When he loses his job, the wife takes their two daughters and leaves him. This gives him some time on his own to think things through, and he decides to go down back underwater to where he last saw his brother alive. After a brief amount of time, he comes back and it appears he is ready to give up on everything related to the creature. That is until he returns home, and he sees a picture in the newspaper left by his friend of the sinkhole in Texas. A picture that has an eerie resemblance to one of the pictures he had drawn during this crazy time.

As for Miles, he has found yet another home for Nimrod, the infant creature he is raising. This new home being in his friend's backyard swimming pool. Nim seems to like his new home, and at this point Phil decides to use their new pet to try to win a girl for himself. However, the girl he tells about the creature has no interest in him, but Miles. When Miles hears what his friend did, he isn't happy, but he continues on with the story in order to see about the girl's interest in him. He does invite her to meet Nim, and she comes by with her tiny dog along for the trip. When they get close to kissing, she laughs and backs off. It had all been some cruel joke to play on Miles. However, the joke ends up being on her when Nim comes up out of the water and drags her tiny dog under. Good-bye doggie!

Now about the government and scientific cover-up? Circo testifies in front of the Pentagon about the new creature and how dangerous it is. He tells the collected officials about it using the example of a small creature that has similar attributes to the creature he and others have discovered. Strange occurrences keeps happening. The new one being what appears to be a side affect of The Greenhouse Effect. Frozen lakes melting and weather balloons falling from their perches in the heavens. The Pentagon doesn't see the seriousness of the events, but Circo and Lee are both going to work towards them doing that.

Another good episode for this show. This show has its slow moments, but those work up to moments that have you waiting on the edge of your seat. We all knew the little dog would become dinner, and we also knew the creature would make an appearance. I think what surprised me here is how calm the creature was with Laura and Jackson. Yes, it made an initial pulse, but it let the boat set there all night, and it even came within inches of Laura under water and didn't do a thing. It even allowed her to shoot at it with the device.

This had me scratching my head here just a bit because this is so unlike the creature's previous behavior. It just made me go ... hmm! However, it didn't totally ruin this episode. In fact, it made things a bit more interesting. However, it did lower the believability factor just a tad. Sort of like when a character totally acts of character in one episode, but then is totally fine the next episode. The character in question here being the creature. Next week looks to be really good, and if the previews tell anything the three main human characters of this program should be meeting up sooner rather than later.

For those that have missed this show and you want to join in the fun here: Sci-fi channel is planning a Surface marathon airing the first four episodes on Tuesday night. Check your local listings for times in your area!

    The Critic Checks In

Hello everyone. Just a quick note from your critic here. This will be as quick and painless as possible so we can continue on with the fun here at One Couch Critic. This is just a one woman operation, so I do my best to keep up on the shows I recap each week. I try my best to get my recaps up the same night a show airs. I have been able to do this so far, but you know something might come up and in that case the recap and review would be up the next day. This is only for new episodes. I will not re-recap repeat airings of shows. In that case, I will link that episode's recap at the end of that week's new episode recap.

Some of you that have been here for a bit now may have noticed some changes to the posts and to the side bars in recent days. I have added some links to advertising. I will try to make those as unobtrusive as possible. I've changed the links on my sidebar around a bit too. Last week, I added links to the various sites and message boards I visit on a regular basis to keep myself up to date on the show happenings off the screen.

Also over on my daily blog, Thoughts from the couch, over on Media Village, I've started a daily feature which I call Today's Buzz, my own little news and gossip column, where I cover the news buzzing that day in the entertainment and media industries. I cover the shows mentioned here as well as many others, so check that out if you get a chance. I have a link to my blog as well as a headline animator that mentions what I might have posted that day on my sidebar. Also don't forget my Media Village forums, fans of the shows of Lost, Grey's Anatomy and The OC can join me and others in discussion over on those forums! If you've missed a review of your favorite show check the technorati search box on my sidebar and plug in that show's title and the reviews from this site will come to you.

There are two more changes which will be added in as of today. Starting today, I will post the network's show synopsis at the start of each review - just so that you can get an idea about what I will cover in my show recap and review. This will be on a trial basis. If it doesn't work or you don't like it, just let me know and I will evaluate as things continue on. I'm here for my readers! If you have any thoughts or suggestions, feel free to email me.

The second change to be implemented will be my new rating system! I'd be pondering this for awhile, and I think I have what I wanted to do in mind now. so here is how things will work. I will rate things on a scale of one to four. The ratings will be as follows:

: This (episode, movie, CD, book) was great. Kept my interest the entire time, or in the case of CD's kept me listening. Very little was flawed in it, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

: This (episode, movie, CD, book) was good. Kept my interest most of the time, but there was some minor flaws in it, but I still enjoyed it. - I'll try to mention what I thought could have been improved. this will usually be in the review though.

: This (episode, movie, CD, book) was okay. Didn't keep my interest the whole way through. Found myself easily distracted.

: This (episode, movie, CD, book) was a snooze fest and not worth the time. There were major flaws. I don't see myself giving many of these, but you never know!

NOTE: This will not be posted on all my book reviews. Sometimes I write reviews for other sites, and I have to use their rating system in that case. These reviews are usually labeled.

NOTE 2: The images may also change from time to time depending on my mood and time of year, but the scale of one through four will remain the same.

One last thing before I go, this site is nearing 10,000 page loads and has had over 8,000 visitors. That is just since its opening on September 1st, 2005! I want to thank everyone that has stopped by and commented since this blog opened. I never imagined this blog would take off the way it has. I hope to be here for some time to come!

TV Review: Grey's Anatomy Episode 2.03

The secrets are out. We all knew they had to come out sometime. We just didn't know they would both come out in the same episode! Oh my! Talk about a bad day for the interns working the floors of Seattle Grace. This week's episode starts with a morning jog with Meredith and Cristina. Once again they share their problems with their bosses and boyfriends - well ex-boyfriends. Meredith seems to think the endorphins from the run will improve their moods. Does it? What do you think? Right! The answer would be a big fat no.

We then jump to the hospital where the day has begun, and it looks to be an exciting one already. We join our interns as they are walking down the halls and gasp - Isobel is trying to talk up Alex to the others. He really is sweet she says, but they aren't buying it. The others even question her on whether or not she has a thing for Alex. She firmly denies that!

The day continues with Dr. Webber returning to the hospital and ready to work. However, Derek isn't ready to allow him back into the OR yet. It has only been a week since his surgery. We then jump back to our interns who are going through rounds. The first case of the day is a young woman that suffers from terminal blushing, and she is having surgery to correct the problem.

Just as they leave another case is coming in from the pit, and low and behold our first secret is out of the bag, and the opening credits haven't even rolled yet. The patient is Meredith's mother, who seems quite agitated about being brought in. Everyone immediately recognizes her, and this does cause a bit of a problem for Dr. Meredith Grey. We all knew the secret wouldn't be kept forever, but I never thought it would be leaked so soon.

The interns are assigned their cases. Alex gets blushing girl. George gets Elder Dr. Grey. Yang gets to work with Burke, and Isobel is sent up to the neonatal ICU to work with the Dr. Shepards on a case. Meredith is assigned to work scut - basically paper pushing detail because she won't take the day off. However, she does get out of this by using Derek to get a spot on a surgery.

Isobel is an awkward position when she is in between the two warring Shephards. Addison is working on a preemie case, and she wants Derek to perform a spinal surgery on the tiny baby. He thinks the baby is a lost cause, and Addison has to let the baby go. He walks away from the case, but Addison still thinks the baby can make it. At the end of the episode, the two warring Shephards came to a conclusion about the case. Derek gives the baby another look, and the baby does seem to be fighting. If her condition continues to improve, Derek will be willing to perform the surgery. Addison also seems to be fighting here. She wants her husband back. She still loves him, but it doesn't appear he is having it.

Poor George. He didn't know what he was getting into when he took on Elder Dr. Grey's case now did he? She thinks he looks like her husband, Meredith's father, and Dr. Webber even confirms the resemblance. Now how much of a shot does the guy have with Meredith if he looks like her father? Not much I bet. He has a time with her mother, and he even has to ask others to help him with her. We learn that there seems to be a tumor on her liver, but after a biopsy is performed by Burke we learn that is benign. This actually saddens Meredith more than if the tumor had been cancerous. With all the exhaustion and the stress of the day, we see Meredith turning to the one man she has been doing her hardest to hate - Derek. She is tired of hating him because she says that is the most exhausting thing of all. Looks like these two are back on the mend, but we will have to wait and see next week now won't we?

Now let's go to secret number two. This one I knew would come out sooner rather than later, but I actually expected this one to come out before the Grey secret. While in surgery with Burke, Cristina collapses, and we learn that she had an ectopic pregnancy in which one of her Fallopian tubes burst. She is rushed into emergency surgery under the care of Addison Shephard with Izzie and Dr. Bailey watching over. Meredith wants in the room, but Bailey won't let her in out of respect for Cristina. Does the nazi have a heart? We've seen shades of it in the last few episodes. Yang ends up out of surgery, and Burke is also concerned about her welfare. I actually felt bad for Burke here. He found out he was going to be a father and lose the baby by just reading the white board on the wall. What a way to find out!

With each week that passes I love this show even more the week before. In my opinion, Grey's Anatomy is one of the best shows on television. It has compelling characters and good storytelling each and every week. Not many shows would let two of their biggest cats out of the bag in the same episode, but this show did and did it well. Not either story line got the short end of the stick here. I love how these characters interact with each other. Friendships and relationships are developing each and every week.

Two of my favorites scenes this week surrounded Derek - well actually that would be three. The two scenes between Derek and Meredith - the one outside the surgery and the one outside the hospital were probably my favorite scenes of the show tonight. However, I really liked the dynamic between Derek and Addison is the one scene near the end when she asks for him back. Also did anyone else go aww when George humored Alice by laying beside her as he pretending to be her husband. That was great too. I really love this show, and I do hope it sticks around for some time to come.

And for those that know what this is, here is a gazoo.
